  • CABs must apply through the NABL portal under Document 133
  • Supports “Accredited Once, Accepted Everywhere” for easier market entry

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is encouraging its accredited Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) to improve international credibility and facilitate smoother global trade, and to obtain permission to use the NABL Accredited CAB Joined ILAC MRA Mark.

This initiative is purposefully meant to lower technical trade barriers by reinforcing the global reliability and acceptance of Indian testing, calibration, and inspection services.

“The Combined ILAC MRA Mark goes beyond being just a log that represents a globally acknowledged assurance of competence,” a senior NABL official noted.

NABL-accredited CABs, including Testing Laboratories, Medical Testing Laboratories, Calibration Laboratories, Proficiency Testing Providers (PTPs), and Reference Material Producers (RMPs) are being advised to apply via the NABL online portal. The process includes either submitting a formal request or signing an agreement as per NABL Document 133.

NABL has highlighted that applications from CABs with unsettled complaints or pending issues will be put on hold until those matters are fully addressed. This ensures the continued integrity and high standards associated with the mark.

“Facilitating the wider use of the Combined ILAC MRA Mark reflects India’s firm commitment to global conformity standards,” the official added. The broader objective is to strengthen international confidence in conventionality assessment results by promoting the "Accredited Once, Accepted Everywhere" principle. This supports businesses in entering new markets without facing repeated compliance testing and demonstrates consistent technical capability across recognized labs worldwide.

This is particularly associated with India’s exports, which lead to a growth strategy, especially in measured sectors such as pharmaceuticals and medical devices, where quality assurance and agreement with international standards are essential for accessing foreign markets.

“As India’s role in global trade continues to expand, it’s essential for our testing and calibration ecosystem to be internationally trusted,” the official concluded.
