Mitsui Chemicals has unveiled a new product—InnoCell, a cell culture microplate with high-performance characteristics, designed with outstanding oxygen permeability, that represents a groundbreaking advancement in scientific research tools applicable to both life science and pharmaceutical research.
Introduced in July, the plate blends Mitsui Chemicals' proprietary material technologies with advanced precision-molding capabilities to mitigate various issues scientists have experienced with 3D cell culture systems.
The InnoCell microplate line consists of two types of plates—the N-type, to be used with organoids, spheroids and non-adherent cells, and the C-type, to be used with hepatocyte cultures and other applications related to drug screening. Including both types of plates provides users with greater flexibility and precision across multiple biomedical research and drug discovery platforms.

The primary competitive advantage of InnoCell is its ability to provide the best oxygenation to cultured tissues, addressing the limitations of conventional plasticware that typically suffer poor gas exchange properties for 3D cultures. Available data suggests that by solving this problem, InnoCell greatly reduces cell death within spheroids and improves cell viability over the long-term, providing better accuracy and reliability for in vitro assay results.
In clinical studies, the capacity of InnoCell to improve the growth of organoids deriving from pancreatic cancer cells, which display resistance to standard types of culture, was demonstrated.
