Alkem Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Alkem Laboratories Ltd., has announced a strategic collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) to establish its first research centre in India dedicated to immune therapeutics and regenerative medicines.
Alkem Foundation, as part of the partnership, will support the establishment of the Alkem Centre for Advanced Research and Development of Applied Immuno-Therapeutics and Regenerative Medicines at IIT Bombay campus by contributing 20-25% of its total CSR obligations for the next seven years.
This project is a unique combination of Alkem's industrial expertise in the area of healthcare innovation and IIT Bombay's proficiency in biomedical engineering, biosciences, and translational research, aimed at building a strong scientific ecosystem.

The institute will concentrate on the innovation, upskilling, and translational research aspect of high-precision medicine, with the extension of the same intricate areas like gene editing, biomaterials, and the next generation therapeutic delivery models. Besides that, it will become a training and incubation centre for clinician-scientists and biotech entrepreneurs, along with the support of mentors from Alkem, IIT Bombay, and global experts.
Madhurima Singh, Executive Director and Chairperson of the CSR and Sustainability Committee at Alkem, expressed that the Company's R&D activities through CSR will be the driver of advanced healthcare solutions. Prof. Shireesh B. Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, said that the collaboration will help India become more self-sufficient in healthcare innovation and the development of affordable, world-class therapies will be faster.
