Edwards Lifesciences Launches Next-Gen Transcatheter Heart Valve in India

Edwards Lifesciences has launched its new-gen transcatheter heart valve platform in India, marking a significant advance in the treatment of severe aortic stenosis. The system is intended for patients that are not suitable candidates for open-heart surgery, representing a minimally invasive and durable approach to therapy that can lead to improved outcomes and quality of life over long term.

Aortic stenosis, a disease that often occurs in conjunction with age, is characterized by calcification that narrows the aortic valve and obstructs the ejection of blood. The Global Burden of Disease study showed that severe calcific non-rheumatic aortic stenosis is radically prevalent in India as cause of heart-related deaths, which substantiates action to advance therapy for patients.

The new Edwards valve is equipped with calcification-resistant tissue technology to counteract calcium buildup, a taller sealing skirt to minimize paravalvular leaks, and a better dry tissue storage place to keep hospitals workflow efficient, supporting the product's promise to transform cardiac care.
