 Hyderabad Emerges

Hyderabad has developed from being a manufacturing base to be a leader in Biotech, pharma and Med Tech, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said at the Biodesign Innovation Summit held on Saturday at AIG Hospital.

Reddy promised the state government will support the entire end-to-end innovation journey of medical products using BioDesign, making Telangana an active and engaged player in the MedTech ecosystem.

Reddy noted Hyderabad’s unique mix of academic excellence, skills development and partnerships with industry, has delivered a highly skilled and capable workforce. He expressed a desire for indigenous innovation to respond to India’s healthcare needs and disclosed that researchers will be able to leverage Telangana’s wealth of medical history data, developed over decades, with privacy safeguards.

"For far too long, our best minds have used their brilliance to solve other countries' problems. We hope to think about how we use our intelligence to determine the needs of our own people, Reddy said.

The Chief Minister congratulated Dr. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, for supporting BioDesign-based research and explained that this approach not only facilitates medical device creation, but it also clinically validates solutions and scales them through manufacturing.

As Telangana is positioning itself as India’s hub for life sciences, he spoke about the surge of investments from the pharmaceutical companies in diagnostic devices, imaging technologies, implants, surgical devices and digital health devices. He noted that several of the over 60 global and domestic companies involved in research, prototyping, testing and manufacturing in the country, are in the Medical Devices Park at Sultanpur, which is the largest fully dedicated Medical Devices Park in the country.

Dr. Reddy anticipated that the Telangana economy would reach USD 1 trillion in the year of 2034 and USD 3 trillion in 2047 with biotech, pharma, and MedTech substantially contributing to that economic growth.
