 India and Uzbekistan

India and Uzbekistan are set to increase cooperation in the pharmaceutical and medical industries after a virtual high-level discussion involving stakeholders of both countries. The session had stakeholders from Pharmexcil, the Uzbekistan Agency for the Development of Pharmaceutical Industry, and the Uzbek Embassy in India.

The meeting was centered on augmenting trade, promoting Indian investment, and streamlining regulatory avenues to enhance bilateral pharma cooperation. Uzbekistan, intending to modernize healthcare establishments, invited Indian pharma companies to join investment forums and assist local production.

"Indian pharma exports and investors have an enormous potential for Uzbekistan," averred Raja Bhanu, Director General of Pharmexcil. The Uzbek delegation was receptive to Indian technical know-how and promised efforts towards simplifying product registration and regulatory transparency.

Uzbekistan closed on its participation at iPHEX 2025, India's top pharma and healthcare exhibition, which is set to bring in B2B interactions and joint ventures.

Concurrent to this, Apollo MedSkills Ltd executed an academic agreement with Zarmed University, Uzbekistan, for the roll-out of the ZAAP MBBS Program from the academic year 2025-26.

The program is for NEET-qualified Indian students seeking low-cost medical education abroad with a chance to clear India's FMGE, NEXT, and USMLE exams.

Currently, there are around 7,000 Indian students in Uzbek universities, which has grown many times since the Russia-Ukraine war. The Indian Embassy is also continuing to assist students by remaining in touch with them continually and running welfare programs.

These programs reflect an emerging Indo-Uzbek collaboration focusing on access to health care, drug discovery, and medical education.
