The Kerala branch of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) is launching a series of training programs over the next year to boost the skills of pharmacy students, working pharmacists, and other professionals in the field.
Dr. P Jayashekhar, the IPA president, shared that these programs, developed with input from the pharma industry, regulatory bodies, and teachers’ groups, aim to connect classroom learning with real-world practice.
One major program is an industry-focused course for final-year B. Pharm and M. Pharm students. This month-long online course, held on weekends from 7 to 9 p.m., teaches students how to apply what they’ve learned in school to real industry challenges.

After the course, students will get hands-on experience by visiting pharmaceutical companies in Tamil Nadu or Karnataka.
To help pharmacists provide better patient care, the IPA is offering patient counseling training three times a year. These sessions focus on improving communication, understanding medications, and connecting with patients. Just last month, 300 pharmacists from HLL Lifecare pharmacies in Kerala took part in a similar training.
In September, the Pharmacy Students Congress will take place in Kochi at Amrita College of Pharmacy. This event will bring together students to discuss the future of pharmacy, new technologies, and industry trends. The IPA is also offering teaching workshops for pharmacy educators to improve their methods and engage students better.
Additionally, a regulatory affairs training for M. Pharm students at Alshifa College of Pharmacy and Chemist College of Pharmacy will include guest lecturers from Tamil Nadu. These efforts show the Kerala IPA’s dedication to raising the bar for pharmacy education and practice.
