Medtronic, a worldwide leader in healthcare innovation, revealed the limited release of the Signia Circular Stapler featuring Tri-Staple technology, representing the first smart circular stapling system designed for application across the digestive tract.
The stapler is created for end-to-end, end-to-side, and side-to-side connections in both open and laparoscopic surgical procedures. The system integrates advanced, powered clamping with enhanced staple line perfusion and lower tissue stress during compression, providing surgeons with greater control. It has obtained regulatory market approval in key areas, such as the United States, Western Europe, and Japan.

Utilizing over 6,000 staplers in operating rooms across the U.S. each day, the Signia Circular Stapler focuses on an essential aspect of surgery: colorectal resection, which is a conventional method for colon cancer and the main approach for treating rectal cancer.
Anastomotic leaks—a danger when the colon is inadequately sealed—may happen in as many as 19% of surgeries, potentially leading to serious infections. The Signia Circular Stapler stands as the sole circular stapler available featuring integrated leak testing and risk-reducing attributes, such as: a reduction of up to 53% in distal tip movement during clamping and firing; and an 88% decrease in waste for each procedure via its universal, reusable handle
"The Signia Circular stapler brings a new level of precision and confidence to the OR," said Krista Sugerman, vice president & general manager, Core Surgical Innovations, Medtronic Medical Surgical Portfolio. "This technology helps standardize performance, improve efficiency, reduce variation, and ultimately supports better patient outcomes. It’s also a vital step toward building a complete and connected OR, where intelligent instruments work together across digital and robotics platforms to support improved patient outcomes.”
