Telangana has made another major move towards enhancing its pharmaceutical and healthcare manufacturing capability. By the latest launch of a highly advanced generic cancer drug manufacturing plant in Siddipet district of the state.
The plant has been developed in the Biotech Park Phase-III in Karakapatla, Markook Mandal, and represents a big step forward for India in terms of oncology drugs manufacturing capability.
This plant has been launched by the IT and Industries Minister, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, and established by the company Ciro Pharma Private Limited. It has been built through an investment of about Rs 800 crores.
This has been described as the first ever integrated oncology manufacturing plant in India with the capability of producing several types of cancer treatment drugs. Such as oral oncology drugs, sterile injections, lyophilized powder injections, and soft gel capsules.
With the latest containment technology, the plant will ensure safe manufacturing of quality cancer treatment drugs. It will also provide employment opportunities of around 500 jobs directly and double that number as operations progress further.

With the increasing cancer cases both in India and internationally, there is now a greater need to have special oncology drug manufacturing facilities. The number of cancer cases and their cost of treatment are high.
Therefore, local manufacture of such drugs will ensure affordability and availability of these drugs. This type of facility eliminates the need to depend on imports, thus providing a steady supply of these medicines.
On the other hand, cancer medications require sophisticated technologies that require specialized facilities. The manufacture of such plants will thus increase the technical capacity of the country, encourage research & development, and innovation in oncology medication.
The new plant at Siddipet is part of the larger efforts by Telangana to establish itself as the world’s leader in life sciences and pharmaceuticals. The Telangana government has made several concerted efforts to foster an ecosystem that involves research, manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and skills development.
For instance, the government of Telangana has set out initiatives such as the Telangana Rising, 2047 vision and the Next Generation Life Sciences Policy, which seek to develop all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry from discovery of drugs to mass production of pharmaceutical products. The state is also focusing on developing its emerging industries, including biologics, biosimilars, and cell and gene therapies.
Moreover, Telangana is making efforts to promote Green Pharma by encouraging the adoption of environmentally friendly manufacturing technologies. Owing to its robust industrial policy environment and world-class infrastructure, Telangana attracts many investors within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
