At the CII Telangana, "Pillars of Protection" conference on pharmaceutical manufacturing safety in Hyderabad, government officials and industry professionals highlighted that safety needs to be embedded in every aspect of their operations.

With Telangana producing 35% of India's pharma production and 32% of India's pharma exports, business leaders expressed that safety should be considered a priority for industrial growth, not just compliance.

Y Nagi Reddy, Director General, Telangana Fire Disaster Response, mentioned that Telangana has experienced over 100 major fire incidents in the last ten years. He called for annual mandatory fire audits and mentioned new technology being used to support during emergencies like fire-fighting robots and drones.

K Raja Bhanu, from Pharmexcil, mentioned that the safety of pharma manufacturing is critical for India's global view, with exports of USD 30 billion and an aim for USD 70 billion by 2030. Dr Vinay Kumar Gupta, CDSCO, stated that seemingly minor examples of carelessness during inspections can, ironically, drive safety improvements.

Nikhil Chakravarthi, from the Commissionerate of Industries, emphasized that Hyderabad has an edge with 40-50% of US FDA approved facilities located there. He also urged that pharma companies should adopt HAZOP and utilize AI, IoT, and digital twins to minimize xaformrisks like contamination.

CII’s R Sivaprasad Reddy and others emphasized CEO-led safety cultures and cited the Bhopal tragedy as a lasting lesson. The conference championed a future where safety fuels sustainable growth in India’s pharma sector.
