Despite this pressing need, oral cancer screening is still far from routine across much of India, particularly in rural and underserved regions where access to specialists is limited. Conventional community screening is still largely dependent on visual oral examination by trained clinicians.

Having treated countless patients with advanced oral cancer, he witnessed how delayed diagnosis often left limited treatment options for a disease that is far more manageable when identified early.

These recurring clinical challenges became the foundation for the development of OralEdge. Rather than creating another diagnostic device, the team set out to rethink how oral cancer screening could reach people before symptoms become severe.

The result is OralEdge, an AI-powered oral cancer screening platform that combines three independent clinical parameters within a single screening workflow. According to the company, this integrated approach is designed to provide a more comprehensive assessment than conventional screening methods primarily based on visual examination.

The platform combines and analyses a patient's demographic details, lifestyle profile, tobacco exposure, and family history. It then captures images of different regions of the oral cavity while simultaneously analyzing breath biomarkers associated with oral abnormalities.

Designed for India's Healthcare Reality

One of OralEdge's defining strengths lies in its practicality. The device has been designed as a portable screening solution that can operate for extended periods without continuous internet connectivity or electricity, making it suitable for deployment in primary healthcare centres, remote villages, and community outreach programmes.

Equally important, the platform has been developed so that screening can be performed by trained healthcare workers rather than requiring the constant presence of an oncologist. This addresses one of India's most significant healthcare challenges, the growing burden of cancer alongside a limited number of oncology specialists.

By enabling preliminary screening closer to where patients live, the technology has the potential to identify suspicious abnormalities much earlier and facilitate timely referral to specialists for confirmation and treatment.

According to the company, OralEdge has already undergone clinical validation, with its findings published in scientific journals. The platform has secured also obtained ISO certification and regulatory approval from CDSCO, while patents have also been filed for the underlying innovation, reinforcing Oncofix's commitment to building globally competitive healthcare technologies from India.

Although OralEdge represents the company’s first product, the founders envision Oncofix as a comprehensive ecosystem capable of addressing every stage of the cancer journey - from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment support, survivorship, and research.
