Abbott, a global healthcare leader, has announced the launch of its AVEIR Dual Chamber (DR) leadless pacemaker system.

It is the first dual-chamber leadless pacemaker system in the world that is engineered to help the heart beat in a more natural way without the use of wires or surgical pockets that contribute to a traditional pacemaker.

Pacemakers are a common remedy for bradycardia, or a heart that beats too slowly, and normal pacemakers with leads or wires send electrical signals to the heart.

Abbott’s new leadless pacemaker utilizes two tiny devices that get placed into the heart via a catheter, which is minimally invasive, reduces recovery time and makes the procedure quicker, easier, and safer due to less chance of complications.

“As leadless pacing technology has evolved, we’ve built upon our AVEIR VR single-chamber platform to expand the benefits of leadless pacing to far more people and provide additional treatment options to patients. This tiny device packed with powerful technology is designed to treat abnormal heart rhythms more precisely and effectively, said Ajay Singh Chauhan, general manager for Abbott’s cardiac rhythm management business in India, Southeast Asia, HK, Taiwan & Korea.

The real innovation is Abbott’s implant-to-implant (i2i) communication technology, which makes it possible for devices in the right atrium and right ventricle of the heart to synchronize in real time. There is a true dual-chamber leadless pace maker that can act as one and gives the heart a more natural and efficient way to beat.
