Highlights:-
A step in the direction of streamlining and simplification of the export procedure for India's traditional medicinal industry, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has now authorized the Ayush Export Promotion Council (Ayushexcil) to issue Non-Preferential Certificates of Origin under Appendix 2E of the FTP 2023.
This sanction is a landmark in securing the position of the Ayush industry in international trade. It will enable Ayushexcil to emerge as a government-approved certifying agency for the export of Ayurveda-based, Yoga-based, Naturopathy-based, Unani-based, Siddha-based, and Homeopathy-based product systems, which are gaining traction all over the world, particularly in the post-COVID wellness era.
With its addition as Serial No. 19 (Delhi) to the revised list of notified agencies in Appendix 2E, Ayushexcil is now placed to issue non-preferential certificates certifying the country of origin of goods for customs and regulatory purposes, along with preferential trading arrangements.
"This temporary empowerment of Ayushexcil is a landmark step towards promoting India's homegrown health systems internationally,” the DGFT added. The step not only lessens the dependence of Ayush exporters on inconsequential councils but also brings together certification under an institution possessing domain knowledge.

Non-preferential certificates of origin are important trade documents utilized to certify the country of production of merchandise. Even though they do not provide tariff reductions or other favorable treatment, they assist in the maintenance of compliance with international trade law, customs tariffs, and other regulatory stipulations.
This action is complete in consonance with the vision of the Government of India's "Make in India”, “Trade with the World", and increasing global interest in natural, holistic, and traditional health care. As a sector-specific certifying body, Ayushexcil can now become a one-stop shop for Ayush exporters with ease of procedures, efficiency, and quicker market access.
By bridging policy and practice, this strategic authorization enables Indian wellness businesses to venture overseas, bringing confidence in their compliance, origin authenticity, and export readiness.
