The Bajaj Group’s Rs 2,000 crore healthcare bet is officially underway in Pune, as the diversified conglomerate prepares to enter India’s healthcare sector with an ambitious long-term expansion strategy.
The group plans to invest over Rs 2,000 crore investment in the city over the next three years, building an integrated healthcare ecosystem that combines hospitals, clinics, home care, and preventive medical services. The move marks one of the biggest diversification efforts by the Bajaj Group healthcare business and signals its intention to expand to seven to eight cities over the next decade.
The healthcare venture will operate under Bajaj Integrated Health System (BIHS), a newly created arm designed to offer a complete care model that supports patients at every stage—from preventive health check-ups to advanced medical treatment. Instead of depending only on large hospitals, the company wants to create a system where patients can receive treatment through clinics, day-care centres, and home healthcare services whenever possible.

According to company executives, the goal is to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and make healthcare more accessible and efficient. Nirav Bajaj said the company wants to build a patient-focused model that delivers treatment in the right setting rather than relying solely on hospital-based care. This approach reflects changing healthcare trends where preventive healthcare in India and outpatient services are becoming increasingly important.
The first phase of the project will begin in Pune healthcare project, where BIHS plans to launch clinics and ambulatory centres within the next six months. A major hospital facility with more than 450-bed hospital in Pune is also part of the plan and is expected to become operational in about four years. Pune will serve as the foundation city for the healthcare business before the company expands the model to other regions.
Expansion to Multiple Cities Planned Over the Next Decade
Following Pune, Mumbai healthcare expansion is expected to be the next major step. Over the next 10 to 12 years, Bajaj Group plans to establish a healthcare presence across multiple Indian cities while adapting services to suit local healthcare demands and economic conditions. The company has indicated that investment levels may differ depending on the size and requirements of each city.
Unlike several healthcare companies that grow by acquiring existing hospital chains, Bajaj Group plans to build its network from scratch. Company leaders believe their integrated healthcare vision requires a customised setup rather than adapting already established systems. This strategy could strengthen the company’s position in the India healthcare sector over the long term.
The move also reflects a larger trend of major Indian business groups investing in healthcare as demand for quality medical services continues to rise. Increasing awareness about preventive care, stronger healthcare infrastructure in India, and growing demand for outpatient healthcare services are making the sector an attractive long-term opportunity.
For Bajaj Group, this healthcare entry is not just about business growth. The company sees it as a long-term effort to build a trusted healthcare system focused on accessibility, prevention, and quality treatment while expanding its integrated healthcare model across India.
