During a massive crackdown across Telangana, Drug Control Administration (DCA) officials raided 66 pharmacies linked to corporate hospitals; they found a mass violation of regulations including sale of expired and banned medicines, it reports. The raids carried out by DCA’s new director general Shawhanaz Quasim exposed serious missteps in the creation, sales and regulatory practices of drugs.
From the inspections it was discovered that a number of pharmacies were selling prescription drugs without qualified pharmacists and storing thermolabile medicines under improper conditions. A prohibited drug, Sugatab MV 2 Forte, was confiscated from the Gemcare Poulomi Hospital in Kapra and sales of Biopro PRP Kits stopped in the Remedy Hospital in Kukatpally the irregular labeling and lack of manufacturing details.
Other violations included failure to maintain prescription registers, lack of purchase and sales bills, and hospital came stocked with physicians’ samples with saleable drugs. Unauthorised drug samples were found at Life Care Pharmacy in Medak and steps were taken at once.
The DCA aligned the fact that action is taking place under Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and urged the public to report any suspicious activities in relation to drug to the administration office in Hyderabad.
