Gujarat Health Minister Shri Rushikesh Patel inaugurated the cutting-edge Varian TrueBeam 3.0 Radiotherapy system on Thursday at Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad, marking a significant leap forward in precision cancer treatment in Gujarat. The inauguration was attended by the hospital’s Radiation oncology team, other Oncologists and entire staff of oncology department

The Varian TrueBeam 3.0 is a modern fully equipped most Advanced linear accelerator (LINAC) used for External beam radiotherapy for patients suffering from cancer. It delivers high-energy X-rays with exceptional accuracy, targeting tumours while sparing healthy surrounding tissues. For patients, this translates into faster treatment sessions, reduced side effects, and improved overall outcomes. Its ability to integrate advanced imaging with treatment also allows doctors to adapt therapy with greater precision for each individual case.

Speaking at the event, Rushikesh Patel said, “Ahmedabad has emerged as a hub for advanced healthcare, with patients from across Gujarat and neighbouring states and countries seeking treatment here. Availability of advanced treatment facilities and clinical expertise of doctors further strengthens the city’s position as a centre for cutting-edge medical care and gives new hope to cancer patients.”

At the inaugural ceremony, Cdr Jelson Kavalakkat, CEO, Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad, reaffirmed Apollo Cancer Centre’s partnership with the Gujarat government to extend the benefits of cancer treatment schemes to all eligible beneficiaries, ensuring no patient is denied care due to financial constraints. He added, “With the installation of the Varian TrueBeam 3.0, we are proud to bring world-class cancer care closer to patients in Gujarat. This system combines precision, efficiency, and patient comfort, enabling us to deliver treatments that match the highest global standards. Our goal is to ensure that these benefits reach every patient who needs them.”

Dr J P Neema Head of Department, Radiation Oncology, Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad, shared, “The system’s advanced imaging and speed make treatments smoother and less stressful for patients. Shorter sessions mean they can return to daily life with greater ease during therapy. The system also supports whole-body radiation, an important treatment for certain types of hematologic malignancies. Truebeam is truly a value addition to our already existing armamentarium.”

Highlighting the clinical benefits, Dr Vivek Bansal, Senior Consultant, Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad, said, “The TrueBeam 3.0 allows us to deliver radiotherapy with sub-millimetre accuracy under image guidance. This allows us to precisely treat moving targets like lung, breast, and prostate with its motion management software by cutting off dose to normal tissues. It thus reduces side effects and improves outcomes. It is essentially all-in-one LINAC by which all types of simple to highly sophisticated treatments are possible giving flexibility to clinicians. The biggest assets, besides enhanced safety is high-end digital imaging on treatment machine and 6D couch, which allow extremely high daily dose treatments with accuracy while keeping treatment times short, enabling completion in 1–2 weeks, which otherwise would have taken 6 weeks or more”

Dr Chirag Amin, Consultant Radiation Oncology, Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad, said, “The TrueBeam 3 enhances precision in radiotherapy, allowing us to adapt treatment to each patient’s needs while keeping pace with global standards. Its advanced features make cancer therapy safer, more effective, and better equipped for complex cases."

With this launch, Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad, has strengthened its role as a regional referral centre for advanced cancer care, blending cutting-edge technology with compassionate treatment.
