 NABH Cracks Down

Key Highlights:-

  • NABH enforces zero-tolerance for document tampering and forgery
  • Forged licenses, fake staff records, and edited images trigger action
  • NABH urges strict ethical conduct to uphold healthcare accreditation integrity

The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) has restated its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of document meddling, forgery, or misrepresentation submitted by healthcare organizations.

Dr. Atul Mohan Kochhar, CEO of NABH, highlighted that such practices will lead to strict disciplinary actions, strengthening the organization’s commitment to support ethical standards in healthcare accreditation. “Any attempt to manipulate documents or mislead the accreditation process will face severe consequences,” Dr. Kochhar stated.

NABH has placed a clear disciplinary action for violators, including termination of accreditation applications, revocation of current certification, and a mandatory five-year ban on reapplication, potential legal proceedings, and public listing of the defaulting institutions on the NABH website.

The warning comes in response to growing incidents where hospitals have reportedly submitted forged statutory licenses, falsified staff records, edited infrastructure photos, and other reformed documentation to secure accreditation or empanelment with insurers and regulatory agencies.

Dr. Kochhar placed full responsibility on hospital leadership CEOs, owners, and senior management stating they must confirm the accuracy and integrity of every submission. “Blaming errors on junior staff or external consultants will not absolve leadership of responsibility. Due diligence is expected at every level,” he added.

To support transparency, NABH will publicly name non-compliant organizations, emphasizing the importance of trust in the accreditation process. Healthcare providers are being urged to follow strictly to ethical standards and regulatory compliance in all interactions with the accreditation body.

“NABH is identical with quality and patient safety,” said Dr. Kochhar. “Maintaining integrity across the healthcare system is essential to earning and retaining public trust.”

NABH encourages any healthcare entity aware of document tampering or malpractice to report it directly to the board at their respected email. The organization remains dedicated in its mission to raise healthcare standards through fair, transparent, and ethical practices across India’s healthcare landscape.
