NIMHANS to Launch National Psychiatry FDP in 2026

The Department of Psychiatry of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, stated that the National Faculty Development Programme (FDP) in Psychiatry will begin in 2026.

By strengthening teaching-learning, mentorship, research, and leadership capacities among psychiatry faculty across India, the program seeks to promote psychiatry education under the direction of Prof. Jagadisha Thirthalli, Head of the Department of Psychiatry.

 It is a significant step forward for academic psychiatry and mental health education, and it is supported by the Dr. Ramachandra N. Moorthy Foundation. Applications for NIMHANS' inaugural Faculty Development Program, which will take place from February to March 2026, will open in November 2025.

“Young doctors need to be trained not only to be good patient care, but also to develop skills in teaching, administration, human-resource management, public-health prioritization, leadership, and effective mentoringThese are especially important for young psychiatrists something we hope this program will achieve,"  says Prof. Murthy.

The program will concentrate on building core competencies for the 21st-century psychiatry educator. It will be led by Dr. Suhas Satish and Dr. Narasimha G V L, faculty at the Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS, with assistance from Prof. M Kishor, Professor  & Head of Psychiatry, JSS Medical College, JSSAHER Mysuru, and the Indian Teachers of Psychiatry (IToP).
