The National Award for Emerging State in Organ Donation has been awarded to Odisha in recognition of its growing leadership and significant development in organ transplantation and public health education.
Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and of Chemicals & Fertilisers Jagat Prakash Nadda awarded the medal at a national level felicitation ceremony at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, organised by the National Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organisation (NOTTO), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Odisha's acknowledgement underscores its sustained focus on upgrading organ donation-related infrastructure, and clearing operational procedures to evaluate clues in transplant regimens, and intends to improve outreach through planned campaigns. The state has shown unwavering engagement with actions directed towards improving medical readiness for end-stage organ failure treatment.

Prof. Umakanta Satapathy, Additional Director of Medical Education and Training, and Dr Bubhuti Bhusan Nayak, Professor in-charge of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), accepted the award on behalf of the state of odisha, which has been giving a lot of attention to increasing its capabilities in the area of public health as a space of enacting broader impacts.
Congratulating Odisha, Union Minister Nadda stated, “The state’s commitment and contribution are commendable and have helped in giving new life to patients suffering from end-stage organ failure diseases.”
The recognition on a national stage is a great milestone for Odisha's journey towards becoming a leader in the field of health innovation and organ transplantation. This recognition also reflects the growing convergence of state-led initiatives and national health goals for ethical, transparent and accessible organ donation all over India.
