Reckitt, a foremost global consumer health and hygiene, has launched their new public art installation in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, as part of its ‘Self Care for New Moms and Kids under Five’ initiative. Sponsored by the Government of Gujarat and the Bhavnagar District Health Department, the installation marks World Malaria Day 2025 and champions this year’s theme: “Malaria Ends with Us – Reinvest. Reimagine. Reignite”.
Designed by an Indian sculptor, Dr. Bibhuti Adhikary is notable for his trailblazing World’s First Innovative Rolling Painting. This artwork is to raise awareness of vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue. The sculpture not only makes an indicator visual statement but also carries a critical public health message in line with India's mission to become malaria-free by 2030.
Built entirely from recycled and recyclable materials, the installation reflects environmental consciousness amid growing concerns over climate change. At its heart are three imposing mosquito sculptures constructed from MS rods and scrap metal, representatively balanced atop pillars decorated with citronella grass and marigold flowers, which are both known for their natural mosquito-repellent properties.
Adding a layer of real-time education, an integrated LED screen cycles through essential messages under the “Know, Act, Control” framework, promoting community awareness and action. This installation, supported by Reckitt’s brand Mortein, draws inspiration from Louie the Mosquito, Mortein’s iconic charm since 1957.
This creativity not only highlights behavioral change and early prevention but also looks to reignite public engagement in fighting vector-borne diseases, uniting art, science, and community action under one powerful message: Malaria ends with us.
