RPG Life Sciences prepares a decisive Rs 500 crore bet that could redefine its API business.
The company plans to deploy this capital towards another acquisition within 12 months.
Managing Director Ashok Nair confirms the firm has already used around Rs 200 crore from its Rs 700 crore committed capital pool and now seeks one more asset.
RPG targets 25 per cent annual growth in its API business over the next five years through organic expansion and deals.
The company shifts towards a focused API growth strategy after moving the business into a dedicated subsidiary.
RPG recently acquired Actis Therapeutics and Raghav Lifesciences with support from private equity firm InvAscent. These deals expand manufacturing capacity fivefold and double the customer base. The acquired assets are expected to contribute Rs 70 crore to Rs 80 crore in revenue over the next six months, with contributions starting from Q3FY27.
RPG transferred its API operations to RPG Active Pharma, a wholly owned subsidiary, and brought in InvAscent as a strategic partner. This structure creates a focused API business with dedicated capital, sharper management attention and greater strategic flexibility.
The company continues to build its formulations side at the same time. The next acquisition aims to strengthen this platform further and support the 25 per cent annual growth ambition.

RPG prefers an asset with USFDA approval or clear operational synergies with existing operations. Differentiated chemistry, regulatory access, product portfolios and established customers matter more than pure size. Higher capacity utilization at the acquired facilities becomes critical.
RPG’s existing manufacturing facilities hold the potential to generate around Rs 450 crore in revenue without significant additional investment. Growth here comes from better utilization, new customers and entry into markets such as Europe and South America.
Acquisition integration and commercial execution will decide the returns. Underutilized assets can unlock revenue without matching new capital expenditure only if the company converts them into productive, high-margin operations.
Additional customers and market access give RPG the chance to lift API exports. The company strengthens its position in regulated foreign markets in Europe and Canada while opening new markets in Latin America and Africa. It has already secured tenders in some Latin American markets and completed its first CDMO project on time.
Regulatory capabilities and product development directly support export competitiveness. Higher utilization and fresh customer relationships can drive revenue growth. RPG must turn manufacturing scale into repeat business and sustainable margins. Success depends on converting capacity into consistent international demand rather than one-time volume gains.
The Rs 500 crore acquisition opportunity stands as the next test. The deal should strengthen product capabilities, export access and the customer base. Revenue contribution, capacity utilization and sustained API growth will measure success more than the size of the cheque alone. RPG Life Sciences now holds the capital and the platform. Execution will decide whether this bet truly redefines the API business.
