Suneeta Reddy Sells Rs 1,489 Crore Stake in Apollo Hospitals to Cut Debt

Suneeta Reddy, the Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd., has sold a 1.3% stake in the company for ?1,489 crore.

The deal, handled through a block trade at ?7,850 per share with Morgan Stanley as the broker, was aimed at reducing the promoter group’s debt and freeing up pledged shares. This price was about 1% lower than the stock’s closing value of ?7,925 on the National Stock Exchange last Thursday.

Suneeta, a key member of Apollo’s founding family since 1989, previously held a 3.36% stake in the company as of June 30, 2025. After the sale, her ownership dropped to 2.06%, and the promoter group’s total stake fell from 29.3% to 28%. The move also significantly lowered the group’s pledged shares from 13.1% to just 2%, honoring a promise to investors. Apollo Hospitals confirmed there are no plans for additional stake sales anytime soon.

Apollo Hospitals, a major healthcare provider with over 10,000 beds across 45 owned and six managed hospitals, has been performing strongly. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2026, the company’s net profit jumped 42% to ?433 crore compared to the previous year. Revenue grew 15% to ?5,842 crore, and EBITDA rose 26% to ?852 crore. The company’s digital health platform, Apollo 24/7, saw a quarterly gross merchandise value of ?682 crore, fueled by growing demand for teleconsultations and online pharmacy services.

This stake sale supports Apollo’s efforts to strengthen its financial position while pursuing an ambitious expansion plan. The company aims to add 4,300 beds over the next five years with a ?7,600 crore investment, with the first 2,000 beds already in progress. Apollo’s stock, which reached a 52-week high of ?7,947 on Thursday, dipped slightly by 0.5% on Friday morning. The company’s market value currently stands at ?1.14 trillion.
