Nootan Pharmaceuticals intends to deepen its relationships with existing manufacturers while actively approaching additional pharmaceutical companies for authorized stockist opportunities

India’s oncology ecosystem is becoming increasingly complex as treatment protocols expand beyond conventional chemotherapy to include targeted therapies, immunotherapies, precision medicines and advanced supportive care. For anti-cancer medicine distributors, this evolution has raised the stakes considerably. Hospitals and patients need not only access to high-value and often time-sensitive medicines, but also dependable inventory, cold-chain assurance, authorized sourcing and responsive logistics. In such an environment, distribution is no longer a back-end function; it is an important link in continuity of care.
Nootan Pharmaceuticals has built its presence around this responsibility. From a single outlet in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the business has expanded across Pune and Hyderabad, developing into an authorized stockist and specialty pharmaceutical distributor serving hospitals, pharmacies, healthcare institutions and patients. Oncology today contributes approximately 60–70 percent of its business, supported by relationships with around 25–30 pharmaceutical companies.
The company’s growth has been shaped over nearly three decades by the first generation of the Kothari family, including Anil Kothari, Dinesh Kothari and Nilesh Kothari, while the second generation, comprising Manish Kothari, Utkarsh Kothari and Shreyas Kothari, is now contributing to the company’s continued growth and development. Shreyas Kothari, who looks after business development, sales and marketing, is focused on expanding pharmaceutical partnerships, identifying emerging specialty products and strengthening access to oncology medicines across markets.

Building a Specialty Distribution Network
Nootan Pharmaceuticals’ evolution began in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where it was among the early distributors to make anti-cancer and critical-care medicines available locally. Around five years after establishing the initial operation, the business expanded into Pune, followed by Hyderabad a few years later.
Pune, being a larger healthcare market, gave the company an opportunity to build relationships with leading Indian and multinational pharmaceutical manufacturers and widen its specialty portfolio. Over time, these partnerships enabled Nootan Pharmaceuticals to move beyond conventional products and establish access to patented, research-driven and differentiated medicines.
“This focus has been central to the company’s long-term strategy. Specialty distribution cannot depend on a static product portfolio, particularly in oncology, where therapeutic options continue to evolve. Nootan Pharmaceuticals therefore closely tracks pharmaceutical companies introducing new molecules and evaluates opportunities to secure authorized stockist relationships,” says Shreyas Kothari, Head of Business Development.
Its market understanding is equally important. The team remains connected with hospital purchase departments, oncologists and pharmacies to understand prescription patterns, product preferences, expected consumption and institutional pricing requirements. This helps the company make stocking decisions based on actual market demand rather than relying solely on historical sales.
Reliability Through Inventory and Cold- Chain Discipline
For oncology distributors, inventory planning requires a different level of precision. Cancer treatment typically involves multiple therapy cycles, which means demand for a particular medicine may continue for several months. Nootan Pharmaceuticals uses this visibility to estimate recurring requirements and maintain sufficient inventory accordingly. Instead of limiting stock strictly to current monthly sales, the company maintains additional quantities for medicines with predictable demand. This approach helps reduce the risk of shortages when hospitals place urgent orders.
Internally, responsibility for different pharmaceutical companies is assigned to designated team members. They continuously monitor stock levels, sales movement and replenishment requirements. Stock-and-sales statements are reviewed regularly, and purchase orders are prepared based on consumption patterns, existing inventory and expected demand.
Cold-chain management forms another critical part of the operation. Temperature-sensitive medicines requiring storage between 2°C and 8°C are handled under prescribed conditions, while urgent hospital requirements are prioritized for delivery. By combining disciplined procurement with responsive logistics, the company seeks to ensure that high-value and critical medicines reach healthcare providers in the appropriate condition and within the required timeframe.
Expanding Reach Through Coordination
The company’s presence across Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pune and Hyderabad provides it with a broader operational base, while coordination between these locations strengthens its ability to respond to regional demand.
When a medicine is unavailable at one location but stocked at another, the teams coordinate internally to move inventory and fulfil the requirement. Advances in logistics have also enabled the company to support customers beyond its core cities, including other markets across Maharashtra and, where feasible, patients elsewhere in India.
“This interconnected model becomes particularly useful in oncology, where treatment schedules are often known in advance. With better visibility of upcoming requirements, the team can plan stock movement and minimize avoidable delays”, says Team Nootan Pharmaceuticals.
Building for Sustainable Growth and Patient Access
Looking ahead, Nootan Pharmaceuticals intends to deepen its relationships with existing manufacturers while actively approaching additional pharmaceutical companies for authorized stockist opportunities. Its priority is to strengthen the breadth of innovative and specialty medicines available through its network.
“The company is also placing greater emphasis on patient accessibility. It currently operates WhatsApp-based support through which patients can share prescriptions and check medicine availability. Over time, Nootan Pharmaceuticals plans to build a more structured ecosystem that allows patients to connect directly, submit prescriptions and receive quicker support in sourcing required medicines through authorized channels,” says Team Nootan Pharmaceuticals.
For Nootan Pharmaceuticals and its team, the roadmap is built around staying relevant in a constantly evolving therapy landscape. By tracking emerging molecules, strengthening inventory capabilities, expanding pharmaceutical partnerships and improving direct patient support, Nootan Pharmaceuticals is positioning itself as a dependable bridge between pharmaceutical innovation and timely access to critical oncology medicines.
