Abbott has unveiled Libre Assist, a new feature within the Libre app designed to help millions of people living with diabetes in the US better understand how their food choices impact glucose levels.
The company is launching the technology at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, marking a major advancement in digital diabetes care.
For people managing diabetes, daily health decisions are constant, with food choices among the most critical. This challenge is heightened by the fact that each person’s glucose response to food is different. Unlike traditional food logging apps that provide feedback after meals, Libre Assist helps users make informed decisions before they eat.

Libre Assist uses generative AI to predict how a food choice may affect glucose levels and offers personalized, in-the-moment meal guidance. Users can snap a photo or enter a text description of food to receive a color-coded glucose impact rating, along with practical tips to lower glucose spikes. After meals, the feature integrates data from Abbott’s Libre continuous glucose monitoring systems to confirm the actual impact.
“People living with diabetes need more than apps that just log food and fall short of helping them with meal decisions,” said Marc Taub, Vice President of Technical Operations, Abbott's diabetes care business.
Libre Assist is available within the Libre app at no additional cost, with no subscription, purchase, or prescription required.
