Cashless healthcare is set to transform the lives of thousands of workers in the national capital after the Delhi Cabinet approved a new healthcare scheme worth Rs 200 crore annually.
The cashless healthcare initiative will provide medical coverage to registered construction workers and their families, ensuring access to quality treatment without the burden of upfront medical expenses.
The scheme is expected to benefit around 2.7 lakh registered construction workers and their dependents, covering nearly 10 lakh people. The move aims to strengthen social security for workers who are often exposed to hazardous working conditions and face significant health risks during their employment.
Under the newly approved Delhi cashless healthcare plan, each registered construction worker will be entitled to cashless medical treatment worth up to Rs 2 lakh. Their family members will receive healthcare coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh.
The scheme has been designed to provide comprehensive medical support through a range of healthcare services, including:

Construction workers regularly work in challenging environments involving dust, chemicals, heavy machinery, excessive noise, and physically demanding tasks. These conditions increase the risk of occupational illnesses and injuries, including respiratory diseases, skin disorders, and silicosis.
To improve healthcare access, the government plans to deploy mobile medical units at construction sites and areas with a high concentration of workers. These units will help bring healthcare services closer to beneficiaries and support early diagnosis of medical conditions.
The scheme also focuses on preventive healthcare by promoting routine health screenings and annual medical examinations.
As part of the rollout, authorities will introduce digital health records and a beneficiary tracking system to improve transparency, service delivery, and monitoring. The digital system is expected to streamline healthcare access and help track treatment history more effectively.
In addition, a 24x7 toll-free helpline will be established to assist workers with medical information, healthcare support, and guidance related to scheme benefits.
The Delhi government's latest initiative marks a significant step toward improving worker welfare, strengthening healthcare coverage, and ensuring that construction workers and their families receive timely medical care. By combining cashless treatment, preventive healthcare measures, mobile medical services, and digital monitoring, the scheme aims to create a stronger healthcare safety net for one of the city's most vulnerable workforces.
