Cipla Foundation has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to establish a state-of-the-art Centre for Pulmonary Medicine at the Tata IISc Medical School in Bengaluru.
The Centre will provide a high-tech diagnostics, outpatient and inpatient care, special ICU, and high-dependency units. It will offer special care on respiratory diseases addressing the increasing lung-related issues in India.
The new Pulmonary Medicine Centre will enhance the ecosystem of respiratory-health in India. It will emphasize on early diagnosis, innovative research and skill training. The centre will assist in developing India-specific guidelines of COPD, interstitial lung disease, and asthma. It will also further research on biomarkers, pharmacogenomics, AI-based lung diagnostics and therapeutics.
Allied specialists which include pulmonologists will be trained. The Centre will have workshops and international partnerships where knowledge will be shared. Community education will help to promote early screening, air-quality, cessation smoking and prevention of lung health.

India continues to face a significant burden of respiratory illnesses, fueled by air pollution, tobacco use, occupational hazards, and low awareness. Access to trained pulmonologists and specialized care remains uneven, particularly outside major cities, delaying timely treatment for patients.
Anurag Mishra, head of Cipla Foundation, said, “At Cipla Foundation, 'Caring for Life' means standing alongside communities and strengthening the public health systems they depend on. Our support for the Centre for Pulmonary Medicine at IISc is rooted in this belief, bringing quality respiratory care closer to people while building the skills and capabilities needed to serve them better.”
Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, director of IISc, added, “Through our partnership with Cipla Foundation, the Tata IISc Medical School will strengthen respiratory care, interdisciplinary research, and innovative medical solutions discovered and nurtured in India for local and global benefit.”
