India Pharma Outlook Team | Monday, 15 September 2025
Delhi became the latest Indian states to intensify its crackdowns on counterfeit medicines by forming a special committee under the health department, officials confirmed today.
The action follows enhanced concerns over the sale of counterfeit medicines in the national capital surrounding hospitals and medical shops. The committee will function through four dedicated teams tasked to target rigorous raids throughout the city.
An official said the teams will begin many of the raids at midnight, as these tend to be times when counterfeit medicines rackets are operating. The medicines collected as a result of the raids will also be tested to ensure they are valid and authentic through regular laboratory testing.

Delhi's Health Minister Pankaj Singh said the decision comes on the heels of the recent circulation of a number of counterfeit drugs in the market that is a serious risk to public health. He emphasized that the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards the production and sale of counterfeit medicines.
"Our primary aim is to protect public health. The newly formed committee will work round the clock to identify sources, conduct surprise raids, and ensure no fake medicines reach the people of Delhi," the minister said.
Industry experts see this as an important step toward protecting the integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain and restoring the public trust in the capital's healthcare system.
