India adds on another crucial invention to their record marking a milestone in pharmaceutical industry, now becoming an innovator in the industry.
Zaynich is an indigenously developed antibiotic designed to fight the multi-drug resistant “super bugs”.
According to Lancet a medical journal, these super bugs directly caused 1.4 million deaths worldwide in 2021. India has also been among the countries hit by the antimicrobial resistance.
Reports also confirm that, in 2019 alone antibiotic infections caused about thirty-thousand deaths.
This breakthrough not only shows off India’s capability in complex research and development rather it highlight the Intellectual property growth.
Zaynich has been approved for fatal bacterial infections; including hospital acquired bacterial pneumonia, blood-stream infections and other chronic soft-tissue infections.
Key highlights:
By producing such a medical drug that is capable of solving world’s health crisis, India’s biotechnology industry has placed themselves on the top, in tackling the most challenging medical mishaps.
Dr Habib Khorakiwala, founder chairman of Wockhardt states, that this antibiotic drug is designed to combat every super bugs, this will make India proud.
The trial has already been done across 19 countries, with more than thousand patients showing effective result. The drug has also shown remarkable potency against bacteria that evolved in recent years.
And in this landmark of achievement, India has received approval from USFDA, elevating India’s status from producer of generic medicines to innovator of pharmaceuticals.

Although Zaynich’s primary focus is on treatment for complicated urinary tract infections, it has been approved for several other fatal bacterial infections caused by the multi-drug resistants.
Zaynich appears as savior to the medical world, as in past many pharmaceuticals failed in antibiotics research and development due to low investments returns.
Therefore it fills an important gap, offering more affordable option, compared to the existing therapies for complicated urinary tract infections.
Wockhardt plans to market Zaynich independently rather than patnering with multinational pharmaceutical companies.
The global demand on antibiotic is about $9 billion, according to founder of Wockhardt Dr. Khorakiwala states that Zaynich has the potential to get peak annual sales.
The FDA approval is a significant milestone for India’s pharmaceutical industry. As the country was historically reliant on low-margin medicines, now pioneers in the Industry for the production of medicine crucial for critical medical issues.
