Jharkhand has cleared a major step toward modernizing its public health system with the adoption of AI in healthcare, alongside a collaboration with Google to strengthen its digital backbone.
The move is aimed at improving diagnostics, managing patient data more efficiently, and expanding access to care, especially in remote and underserved regions.
The decision builds on the state’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery through a ‘hub and spoke’ model. Under this approach, tertiary centers are connected with district hospitals to ensure patients can access specialized care without long travel.
The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi is already linked to several district hospitals through a tele-ICU network, allowing doctors to provide remote critical care support in real time.

Officials say the newly approved AI in healthcare initiative will strengthen these systems by adding advanced analytics and cloud-based tools to everyday operations. These technologies are expected to support faster and more accurate diagnoses, reduce delays, and help hospitals manage large volumes of patient data with greater ease. Streamlined workflows could also improve how resources are allocated across facilities.
The partnership with Google is expected to bring scalable cloud infrastructure and technical expertise, helping Jharkhand deploy digital health solutions more effectively. The state plans to build an integrated health information system that allows real-time data access and better coordination among healthcare providers.
This latest move also ties into earlier plans announced in December 2025 to set up seven AI-based high-tech medical laboratories. Those proposals focused on upgrading infrastructure, strengthening medical colleges, and improving district hospitals with central support. With cabinet approval now in place, Jharkhand is moving toward a more connected, efficient, and accessible healthcare system.
