The Ministry of Ayush has been sought by the parliamentary panel on Health and Family welfare to ensure effective implementation of various practices for the quality and safety of medicinal plants used for the manufacturing of Ayush drugs in the country.
In its 165th report on the Ministry of Ayush's Demands for Grants 2025-2026, the parliamentary standing committee on Health and Family welfare also suggested that the Ministry provide new and additional impetus to promote India on Global Medical Tourism, which is growing importance and encouraging foreigners to seek alternative treatment through ayush.Examining the National Medicinal Plants Board's (NMPB) central sector program on conversation, development, and sustainable management of medicinal plants, which aims to advance research and development (R & D), it was said by the panel that the considered view is that concrete steps should continue to be taken by the Ministry to ensure quality assurance, supply chain, and the creation or optimization of market linkages and value addition in the scheme.
"In this regard, the Committee desires that the Ministry should ensure effective implementation of Voluntary Certification Schemes for Medicinal Plants produce (VCSMPP) to encourage Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and Good Field Collection Practices (GFCP) in medicinal plants and enhance quality and safety of these plants," said the panel headed by Member of Rajya Sabha Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav.
