Philips has revealed an enhancement of its partnership with Nicolab, a prominent AI-based stroke management company, to improve stroke diagnosis and treatment in India.
This partnership signifies a noteworthy step towards addressing one of India’s biggest health threats by pairing Philips’ world-class imaging capabilities to Nicolab’s StrokeViewer AI platform.
India sees around 1.8 million new strokes each year, representing one of the largest stroke burdens in the world, while delays in diagnosis and ability to see a specialist create significant barriers to recovery. Philips and Nicolab’s hope is that this collaboration optimizes clinical workflow and speeds decision making to ensure access to life-saving treatment.

Gaurav Vyas, business leader, image guided therapy, Philips Indian Subcontinent, said, “Stroke is a growing healthcare challenge in India, where every minute makes a difference to patient outcomes…communities and Tier 2 and 3 cities — ultimately providing better care for more people.” Michael Macilquham, Nicolab CEO, added, “Our purpose has always been to ensure every stroke patient, regardless of where they live, has the best possible chance of recovery. India presents both an enormous challenge and a profound opportunity… about building capacity, strengthening networks and ensuring that innovation reaches every patient who can benefit from it.”
StrokeViewer is the first cloud-based system in India that was cleared for CT Perfusion (CTP) imaging and analysis and produces instant AI-driven results and the ability to access patient data centrally for stroke specialists to communicate easily. Coupled with Philips’ Azurion image-guided therapy, clinicians have the ability to review scans, use AI results and interventions on the screen in real time with precision.
Together, Philips and Nicolab are advancing the future of AI stroke care in India, driving innovation, efficiency, and equity in healthcare.
