Piramal Pharma Solutions (PPS), a global leader in contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) and a division of Piramal Pharma Ltd., has announced the installation of a cutting-edge Korsch XM-12 bilayer tablet press at its Morpeth facility in the UK. This strategic addition strengthens the site's formulation development capabilities, enabling the production of complex oral solid dosage forms, including fixed-dose combinations and modified-release systems.
The Morpeth site plays a critical role within PPS’s global network, with a focus on oral solids and hormonal therapies. The integration of the Korsch XM-12 significantly enhances the team’s ability to manufacture both single-layer and bilayer tablets with improved precision, flexibility, and production efficiency. The machine is equipped with specialized features such as advanced sanitary inlet fittings, a dedicated chute for high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and interchangeable B and D turrets to allow for swift production changeovers.

Safety and quality have been prioritized throughout the installation process. Comprehensive training programs have been developed for scientists, operators, tech transfer personnel, and maintenance teams. Delivered in collaboration with Korsch technicians, the training will cover all aspects of machine operation, including layer modes, cleaning, changeovers, and containment assessments. Qualification and validation are being carried out by PPS’s in-house experts, following stringent industry standards and the company’s own high-quality benchmarks.
