One of the major steps to reinforce international cooperation on traditional medicine is the World Health Organization (WHO) along with the Government of India signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to co-host the Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine in New Delhi from 17–19 December 2025.
The event of signing took place with Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, two of the highest officials from the WHO and the Government of India.
Attending the event, the latter handed over the MoU to Dr. Shyama Kuruvilla, Director ad interim of WHO’s Global Traditional Medicine Centre, and Monalisa Das, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ayush. This transition was executed during the second summit planning group meeting.

Rooted in the idea of “Restoring Balance for People and Planet: The Science and Practice of Well-Being,” the summit is to become a venue for the world public to see and support a recent Global Strategy on Traditional Medicine which is a ten-year plan working towards all the goals of WHO approved at the 78th World Health Assembly in May 2025.
The event is set to include over 500 international delegates who will be there in person, and 5,000 virtual participants. There will also be an immersive expo featuring innovations, technologies, and practices from all over the world.
By convening experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders, the conference looks to encourage the implementation of traditional medicine that is supported by the evidence in various health systems worldwide.
