Sales Growth Rate measures the increase or decrease in a brand’s sales over a defined period. It shows whether commercial strategies are delivering growth. However, companies should compare brand growth with overall market growth to understand whether they are gaining competitive strength.
Market Share shows the percentage of a defined therapeutic market captured by a brand. It provides a competitive view that sales growth alone cannot offer. A brand can grow sales while losing share if competitors grow faster.
Prescription Growth tracks changes in prescriptions over time, commonly through TRx (Total Prescriptions). It helps marketers understand whether HCP prescribing is increasing and identify differences across doctors, geographies, and institutions.
New Prescription Growth focuses on NRx (New Prescriptions) rather than total prescriptions, which may include refills. It indicates whether a brand is attracting new patients or generating new prescribing behavior, making it a useful measure of brand momentum.
HCP Reach measures the number or percentage of target healthcare professionals reached within a defined period. It shows the breadth of field-force or omnichannel coverage and helps identify gaps in reaching priority HCPs.
Call Frequency measures how often representatives interact with targeted HCPs. It helps companies assess whether doctors receive interactions at the intended frequency and provides a clearer picture of field-force contact depth.
Call Average measures the average number of HCP interactions generated by a representative or sales team during a defined period. It helps compare field activity across representatives, territories, and periods. Since companies may define this metric differently, the calculation should remain consistent within the organization.
HCP Engagement Rate measures how actively HCPs interact with company content, campaigns or representatives. Engagement can include communication responses, webinar participation, and interaction with educational content. Unlike reach, it indicates whether the interaction generated meaningful participation.

Digital Content Engagement tracks HCP interaction with websites, emails, webinars, and online educational resources. Metrics can include clicks, views, downloads, webinar attendance, time spent, and video completion. These measures help marketers identify effective content and digital channels.
Campaign Conversion Rate measures the percentage of targeted HCPs who take the desired action after campaign exposure. It moves measurement beyond reach and engagement by showing whether a campaign generated its intended response.
Secondary Sales Growth tracks product sales as medicines move through downstream channels such as pharmacies, hospitals and retailers. It helps companies understand actual market movement rather than relying only on stock supplied into the distribution network.
Marketing ROI measures the financial return generated by marketing expenditure. It helps companies compare the commercial value of different campaigns, channels and HCP engagement strategies and identify where marketing investment delivers stronger returns.
Marketing Cost per Engagement measures the spending required to generate one defined HCP engagement. Marketers can use it to compare the cost efficiency of different campaigns and channels and identify opportunities to optimize spending.
Prescriber Retention measures the percentage of doctors who continue prescribing a brand over a defined period. It shows whether prescribing behavior remains sustained and complements metrics such as prescription growth and HCP engagement.
Brand Adoption measures how successfully a brand gains acceptance and usage among its target prescribers or patient population. Marketers can assess adoption through new prescribers, NRx, repeat prescriptions, prescription frequency, market share, and treatment uptake. It represents the progression from awareness and engagement to actual prescribing or treatment use.
“The next era of measurement will come down to whether marketers can defragment the fragmented. Not by adding another dashboard, but by moving beyond siloed metrics to a unified, deduplicated view of performance that resolves identity and shows what each campaign delivered,” says Justin Rosen Head of Measurement Product at IQVIA Digital.
