AbbVie joins the AI drug-discovery race with a multi-year tie-up that applies Iambic’s molecular superintelligence platform to small-molecule discovery.
The partnership targets immunology, neuroscience and oncology. These three therapeutic areas form AbbVie’s core revenue engines.
Rather than spreading resources across new fields, the collaboration points advanced AI tools directly at the franchises that already define the company’s pipeline and commercial strength.
Iambic’s Enchant v3 model will help AbbVie scientists design better candidates faster while testing multiple properties at once.
The deal includes an upfront payment, success-based milestones and tiered royalties, reinforcing AbbVie’s broader AI@AbbVie initiative.
AbbVie and Iambic launch a multi-year collaboration to accelerate AI-driven discovery of small-molecule medicines in immunology, neuroscience and oncology. AbbVie discovers and delivers innovative medicines across these core therapeutic areas; Iambic develops novel medicines through its AI-driven discovery platform.
The partnership applies Iambic’s platform across immunology, neuroscience and oncology. AbbVie and Iambic pursue programs with first-in-class or best-in-class potential. This focus keeps AI resources locked on the same areas that generate the bulk of AbbVie’s current and future value.
Nicholas Donoghoe, executive vice president and chief business at AbbVie, states that purpose-built AI capabilities will equip discovery scientists and accelerate innovation across the organization.
Jonathon Sedgwick, senior vice president and global head of discovery research, adds that the collaboration aims to design better molecules more efficiently and raise the probability of success.

Traditional small-molecule discovery requires scientists to evaluate dozens of properties for each candidate one by one. Iambic’s molecular superintelligence platform, powered by Enchant and NeuralPLexer, optimizes the full range of candidate properties simultaneously. The collaboration uses Enchant v3, Iambic’s next-generation multimodal transformer model.
Key capabilities include:
Iambic has already demonstrated the platform’s utility by advancing a novel drug candidate into clinical development in approximately two years while building a broader preclinical pipeline. Thomas Miller, co-founder and CEO of Iambic, emphasizes that the partnership brings the platform alongside AbbVie’s world-class team to address unmet patient need.
Under the agreement, Iambic receives an upfront payment and remains eligible for success-based milestone payments plus tiered royalties on net sales of products that emerge from the collaboration. The companies do not disclose the total potential value.
The deal expands AbbVie’s AI@AbbVie initiative, which embeds artificial intelligence across research and development, operations and other business functions to enhance productivity, strengthen decision-making and accelerate the delivery of medicines.
By directing AI specifically at immunology, neuroscience and oncology, AbbVie strengthens the scientific and commercial foundations of its existing franchises. The collaboration equips discovery teams with tools that compress timelines, improve molecule quality and increase the odds of delivering breakthrough therapies to patients sooner.
