The multi-specialty chain, Ahmedabad-based Shalby Hospital, decided to go for a big expansion plan establishing a pan India presence. Shalby Hospitals will start new hospitals in Lucknow, Kolkata, Nagpur, and Pune in the next two to five years.
The company will be focusing on strategic growth in Tier-1 cities; each new hospital will be of 200-250 beds capacity model, which is considered optimal to ensure operational efficiency and a superior patient experience.
The company will be able to expand using a combination of owned and asset-light models, with investments adjusted to the infrastructure of each metro. Shalby has spread successfully while it is known globally for orthopaedics, basically, for the more than 50,000 joint replacements it does annually.
Now orthopaedics only account for 35% of the total revenue of the company, while the rest is coming from cardiology, oncology, and other areas of medicine.

"We have transformed from being just an orthopaedic brand to a full-fledged multi-specialty healthcare provider," said Shanay Shah, President of Shalby Hospitals. The group is putting a lot of money into the future by means of technology, such as the use of robotic surgeries and the introduction of modern imaging.
The hospital chain is also experiencing the continuation of strong growth in its international patient base, which is a source of great confidence for it as a scalable healthcare provider of the future.
