Swine flu cases climb across Uttar Pradesh as the state moves to make government hospital testing free.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directs free Influenza-A (H1N1) testing at every government health facility and orders stronger surveillance in districts that report higher numbers.
The step aims to remove cost barriers, speed up identification and keep treatment focused on those who need it most.
Officials also tighten rules for private facilities and prepare hospitals with medicines, isolation space and clear referral pathways.

Experts informed the review meeting that 685 laboratory-confirmed H1N1 cases have been reported in the state as of Wednesday. The infection is a type of Influenza-A virus. It spreads mainly through droplets released while coughing or sneezing.

The chief minister has told officials to ensure timely identification and treatment. Wherever cases increase, surveillance must strengthen and medical arrangements must follow at once.
The government will provide H1N1 testing free of cost at all government health facilities. Private healthcare institutions must not charge more than the prescribed fee for the same tests. Hospitals must maintain adequate stocks of medicines, testing capacity and isolation facilities. They must also prepare separate ICU wards for serious patients.

District hospitals already operate flu help desks, sample collection points and separate flu OPDs. Medical colleges maintain testing facilities, medicines, isolation beds and adequate RT-PCR kits. The government states that stocks of oseltamivir capsules and syrup, along with H1N1 vaccine, remain available.

Patients with mild symptoms should follow medical advice for home rest and self-isolation. Serious cases must receive immediate treatment. Special attention goes to children, pregnant women, people above 65 and those with serious pre-existing illnesses.
Hospitals must set up separate counters for patients who present with influenza-like symptoms. A clear referral system based on the patient’s condition will help serious cases reach care without overburdening facilities.
Experts list warning signs of severe illness. In adults, these include breathing difficulty, chest pain, extreme drowsiness, low blood pressure, blood-stained sputum and bluish nails. In children, the list includes persistent high fever, inability to eat, seizures, rapid or difficult breathing and worsening of an existing illness.
The chief minister has directed officials to strengthen public awareness and give simple, accurate information on what people should and should not do. He has stressed that there must be no unnecessary panic. Hand hygiene, cough and sneeze precautions and other infection-prevention measures remain essential at hospitals and crowded places.
Continuous monitoring of the situation will continue, with immediate action required in any district that sees a further rise in cases. By making government testing free and tightening the wider response, Uttar Pradesh aims to limit the impact of climbing swine flu cases while keeping the health system prepared.
