Pharma quality control is emerging as an important growth area for BioMerieux, after the French diagnostics group reported an 8.6% organic increase in Industrial Applications sales during the third quarter of 2026.
The segment generated 170.1 million euros, representing 16% of group revenue, with double-digit growth in reagent sales.
The company attributed momentum to its BIOFIRE Mycoplasma and CHEMUNEX solutions for pharma quality control, alongside GENE-UP products for food safety.
The results point to demand for specialized microbiological testing as manufacturers seek stronger contamination controls, particularly in biologics production, where reliable testing can protect product quality, manufacturing continuity and compliance.
BioMerieux's Industrial Applications business recorded sales of 170.1 million euros in the third quarter, compared with 154.7 million euros in the corresponding period of 2025.
The company attributed the expansion to double-digit growth in reagent sales, supported by its solutions across pharmaceutical and food safety testing.
In pharma quality control, BIOFIRE Mycoplasma and CHEMUNEX contributed to the performance, while GENE-UP supported the food safety control portfolio.
Unlike clinical diagnostics, which primarily serves hospitals and laboratories, its industrial applications portfolio addresses testing requirements across pharmaceutical manufacturing and food production.

Mycoplasma contamination remains a critical concern in the production of biological medicines, including monoclonal antibodies, vaccines and other cell-based therapies.
Consequently, mycoplasma testing in pharmaceutical manufacturing is an important component of microbiological quality control.
Manufacturers need to assess raw materials, cell banks, in-process samples and final products to identify contamination risks at different production stages.
BIOFIRE Mycoplasma platform uses automated PCR-based detection to provide results in less than an hour. The system is designed for testing raw materials, in-process samples and final product release.
Faster pharmaceutical contamination testing can help manufacturers identify potential problems earlier, reduce delays in production decisions and strengthen quality assurance procedures.
The growth of biologics and advanced therapies is increasing the importance of contamination detection in biopharmaceutical production.
Unlike conventional chemical medicines, many biological products depend on living cells or biological systems during manufacturing, making process monitoring and microbiological testing particularly important.
This creates opportunities for pharma quality control technologies that combine rapid detection, automation and reliable testing workflows.
The opportunity extends beyond mycoplasma detection. CHEMUNEX solutions contribute to rapid microbial detection, while broader industrial microbiology platforms address different testing requirements.
For BioMerieux, the latest quarterly performance suggests that industrial applications are becoming an important contributor alongside its clinical diagnostics portfolio.
Continued growth in specialized reagents also highlights the commercial significance of recurring testing requirements as manufacturers expand their quality-control activities.
As pharmaceutical production becomes increasingly focused on complex manufacturing processes, demand for reliable contamination monitoring and pharmaceutical quality testing is likely to remain an important area for diagnostic technology providers.
