The European Medicines Agency has approved the marketing authorization for the drug named NaMuscla, which is supported by the Pediatric Investigation Plan (PIP). This helps Lupin in expanding the target patient base and extending the market exclusivity in Europe.
This includes Lupin's drug among other orphan drugs, positioning it as one of the only approved drugs in the market for myotonia and non-dystrophic myotonia disorder across all age groups.
The non-dystrophic myotonias are a rare genetic condition where the muscles have trouble relaxing after movement. For instance, when we grip something or make a fist, the muscle gets tightened, and for someone with this condition can’t relax back, as their muscle gets locked for a few seconds.
The muscles in our body rely on sodium and chloride channels for tiny electrical signals. With these conditions, the genetic causes will stay switched on and won’t be able to relax back to their old positions.
