September Turns Worst Month for Dengue in Delhi This Year: MCD

September turns out to be the worst month for dengue in Delhi this year as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi reports a sharp surge in cases.

The civic body has tracked 121 dengue infections so far this month, the highest monthly tally recorded in the capital during 2026.

Monsoon conditions continue to favor mosquito breeding, and fresh infections keep rising. Officials also note the highest malaria numbers for any month this year.

These figures push the city’s total dengue count to 432 and highlight the ongoing challenge of vector-borne diseases even as control teams intensify their work across zones.

September Records Peak Dengue and Malaria Numbers

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s weekly vector-borne report till September 12 shows that September accounts for more than a fourth of the year’s total dengue cases. The capital records 71 fresh dengue infections over the past week alone.

Key figures from the MCD data include:

• 121 dengue cases in September so far, taking the 2026 total to 432.
• 64 malaria cases in September, the highest monthly figure this year, and a yearly total of 183 malaria cases.
• No malaria-related deaths reported this year.
• 24 chikungunya cases so far in 2026, compared with 46 during the same period in 2025, with only two cases recorded in September.

West Delhi leads the dengue count with 57 cases this year. The Central zone follows with 54 cases, and Shahdara North reports 50 cases.

Comparison with Previous Years

Delhi recorded 432 dengue cases in 2026, lower than the corresponding figures for 2023–2025, while September recorded the highest monthly concentration of cases so far this year.

MCD Intensifies Mosquito-Control Measures

Officials state that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has stepped up mosquito control efforts across the city. Teams inspect more than 2.79 crore houses for mosquito breeding this year.

Additional control actions include:

• Detection of active mosquito larvae in 1.47 lakh houses.
• Issuance of more than 1.10 lakh legal notices for conditions that favor mosquito breeding.
• Launch of 11,943 prosecutions and collection of Rs 15.59 lakh in penalties.
• Anti-larval spraying in more than 13 lakh houses so far this year.

These measures aim to curb further spread while the monsoon season continues. The data underscores the need for sustained vigilance in high-burden zones such as West Delhi, Central, and Shahdara North. Residents and civic teams must maintain focus on eliminating breeding sites to limit additional cases in the coming weeks.
